Worker Injured in Fayetteville NC Trench Failure Accident
A gentleman named Alfred Norris was injured on Wednesday when a trench collapsed around him in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
Mr. Norris was apparently checking a hole being dug by a co-worker when the trench collapsed. The trench was adjacent to a Lowes Home Improvement store on Good Middling Avenue. The North Carolina State Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident. Mr. Norris was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
Trench failures are often the result of someone not properly deploying a trench box or other supportive devices during an excavation. Indeed, in the Fayetteville area, the natural soil condition are typically sandy and sandy soils do not provide much natural support in shallow excavations thus making trench support critical in these conditions.
