Teck Allen Killed in Mooresville NC Tractor-Trailer Accident
A woman named Teck Allen was tragically killed in an accident involving a tractor-trailer on Thursday morning near Mooresville, North Carolina. The accident happened at around 5:30 am when a tractor-trailer was attempting to back off of North Carolina Highway 3 into the driveway for Johnson Dairy. Apparently, the tractor stayed in the northbound lane of NC 3 but the trailer was partially across the southbound lane in which Ms. Allen was traveling. The trailer did not have operating running lights which made the trailer difficult to see for on-coming vehicles. The driver of the tractor-trailer has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. Ms. Allen was 55 years old.
These types of accidents are entirely preventable if the trailer is properly illuminated with side-running lights and conspicuity tape. It is apparent that the trailer in this case was not sufficiently illuminated and that the conspicuity tape was lacking and this was a major cause of this wreck. Also, if the tractor was facing the direction that Ms. Allen was traveling, the beam of the tractor’s headlights would make it very difficult for her to see anything on either side of the beams. Based on what happened here, it would seem the driver was not just negligent in causing this wreck but also grossly negligent.
