Passenger Charged in Accident that Killed Jennie Moore
A terrible accident on Friday in Pender County, North Carolina has resulted in charges against a passenger in one of the vehicles.
The accident happened on N.C. 53 when a car driven by Jennie Moore of Burgaw crossed the center line and hit a SUV driven by Mary Fontana. As a result, Ms. Moore was killed and Ms. Fontana and her two children were injured.
Following extensive interviews with witnesses, police have now charged Lance Powers with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle for allegedly grabbing the steering wheel while Ms. Moore was driving. Mr. Powers is still in the hospital recovering from his injuries.
This is a terrible but unusual case that could have significant implications on any available insurance for the victims of this wreck. Significantly, does Mr. Powers have separate auto insurance that might help the victims since, it appears, he may be considered to have also been operating the vehicle at the time of the wreck? Who owned the vehicle and is there a different insurance policy for the owner?
