Nashville NC Farm Workers Seriously Injured When Bus Hit by Tractor Trailer Near Tarboro, NC
A serous accident on U.S. Highway 64 near Tarboro, North Carolina has resulted in injuries to 26 people including a significant amount of migrant farm workers.
The accident happened early Monday morning when a tractor-trailer rear-ended a bus carrying the farm workers. The bus then overturned and landed in the left lane of US 64. The driver of the tractor-trailer was charged with failure to reduce speed and there is some indication that he may have been distracted by using a hands-free phone device when the accident happened.
Two of the farm workers were flown to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville NC while others were treated at local hospitals.
The driver of the bus was also charged with not having a Class B driver’s license which is required when transporting 16 or more people. However, it appears that the failure to have the Class B license played no role in the accident.
