Halifax NC Amtrak Collision With Tractor-Trailer Results in Multiple Injuries
On Monday afternoon, a serious accident involving an Amtrak passenger train and a tractor-trailer near Halifax, NC has resulted in multiple injuries to passengers on the train.
The accident happened at around 12:15 pm at the location where N.C. Highway 903 crosses the tracks adjacent to the intersection with U.S. 301. Apparently, the tractor-trailer was attempting to make a left turn onto U.S. 301 from N.C. 603 but was unsuccessful and backed onto the train tracks just as the train was approaching. The train had 212 passengers and 8 crew members. As a result of the collision, 62 people were transported to Halifax Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The tractor-trailer was apparently hauling a building designed to house electrical equipment and was headed to New Jersey. North Carolina State Highway Patrol troopers were escorting the tractor-trailer to the Virginia line and were apparently on the scene when the accident happened.
This is a very serious accident and the tractor-trailer company would appear to be at fault for the collision. Hopefully, the tractor-trailer company has enough insurance to cover the significant number of claims for the victims of this accident.
