“She’s banged and bruised up,” Gould said. “But she’s awake and conscious.”
A 17-year-old was driving the 14-year-old and a 16-year-old on Old Savannah Road near U.S. 117 about 1:30 p.m., when the driver ran off the right side of the road, over-corrected, crossed the center line and over-corrected again. The 14-year-old was thrown off the four-wheeler and landed on the road before the ATV hit a ditch.
The other two teenagers had minor injures, but the 14-year-old was airlifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Gould said the driver was charged in the wreck.
“None of them were wearing helmets,” Gould said, adding the four-wheeler was driving about 30 mph during the wreck.
