Dwayne Kirkland Jr. Killed in Norwood NC Crash
A gentleman named Dwayne Kirkland Jr. was tragically killed on Wednesday in an accident on U.S. Highway 52 near Norwood, North Carolina. According to available information, the accident happened around 10:10 am when a 2014 Freightliner box truck suddenly ran off the right shoulder, over-corrected, and then crossed the centerline hitting Mr. Kirkland in his pickup truck. The Freightliner was apparently hauling a load of paper at the time. The driver of the Freightliner has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. It is not clear how these charges may ultimately affect the driver.
Mr. Kirkland apparently worked as a heating and air technician and was en route to his next job when the wreck happened. Mr. Kirkland was 25 years old and apparently lived in Mooresville, North Carolina.

It is unclear why the box truck ran off the side of the road and hopefully NC Highway Patrol officers will investigate all aspects of this crash. Our experience in cases such as this is that distracted driving is often a contributing cause to this type of accident and we would be interested to know if the driver of the Freightliner was using a cellular device when the wreck happened. Regardless, this type of accident should be preventable and our sympathies are with the Kirkland family.
