A gentleman from Pittsboro, North Carolina was tragically killed Friday night when the pickup truck he was driving was hit from behind by a concrete truck. The crash happened just before 5:00 pm on Interstate 40 near the intersection with South Saunders Street.
According to available information, the driver of the concrete truck failed to reduce speed and caused the collision. Two other drivers were also injured – Julisa Brown and Nereida Tapia-Guzman who were both transported to Wakemed for treatment.
This is obviously a very tragic accident. Whenever a wreck such as this occurs, it raises the suspicion that the driver of the concrete truck was possibly distracted when the collision occurred. It would be important in this case to secure the driver’s cell phone records to determine whether the cell phone was in use when the wreck occurred. Additionally, it would be important to download all electronic data from the truck to determine if and when the driver applied the truck’s brakes.
