Asheville, North Carolina Residents Deal with Contamination in Wells
A number of residents in South Buncombe County near Asheville are dealing with contaminated drinking water wells. The contaminated water is near an former CTS industrial site. EPA testing first discovered contamination in soil and stream samples in 1990, but the groundwater wasn’t tested. In July 1999, the chemical trichloroethylene, or TCE, was found in a drinking water well near the site. TCE is an industrial solvent and suspected carcinogen.
