Impaired Driver Causes Surf City, NC Crash That Kills Robin Blankenship
In one of the worst accidents that we have seen in a long time, a Raleigh man who has been charged with multiple crimes including driving while impaired for a collision in Surf City, North Carolina that caused of the death of a young mother named Robin Blankenship.
The wreck happened on N.C. 50 West which is the main beach road along Topsail Island. According to available information, Ms. Blankenship was traveling west on N.C. 50 when the impaired driver went left of center and collided head-on with Ms. Blankenship. Ms. Blankenship was pronounced dead at the scene while her two year-old son was critically injured and transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
The driver of the other car, a 20 year-old man from Raleigh, has been arrested on numerous charges including open container violations and possession of controlled substances. What is not clear from the available information is where the Raleigh man obtained his alcohol. Since he was underage, there may be a claim against the provider of the alcohol for contributing to this horrific crash.
