Durham NC Gas Explosion Lawyer
A very serious gas explosion occurred on April 10, 2019 in downtown Durham, North Carolina. The explosion occurred just after 10:00 am at the 100 block of North Duke Street. One person, a gentleman named Kong Lee, was killed at 17 people were injured. Some of the injured are in critical condition. Mr. Lee operated a coffee shop in the destroyed building.
According to reports, a contractor hit a 2-inch natural gas line around 9:38 am and that this was reported to Dominion Energy, formerly PSNC. Apparently, firefighters had been dispatched to the area before the explosion. However, there is no indication that Dominion Energy shut off the flow of natural gas following a report of the leak. Rather, reports, indicate that Dominion Energy did not shut off the gas until 11:10 am which was well after the explosion.
