North Carolina Bicycle Wrecks

Arrest Made in Wreck that Killed Bicyclist Igancio Giraldo

A gentleman named Ignacio Giraldo was tragically killed while riding his bicycle last Thursday in Caldwell County, North Carolina near Grandfather Mountain.  Following the wreck, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene.  Mr. Giraldo died two days following the wreck.

Police now indicate that the driver of the vehicle has been arrested in Granville County, North Carolina which is just north of Raleigh.  The 55 year old man was charged with felony hit and run although it would seem likely that there would be a misdemeanor death by motor vehicle charge as well.

North Carolina Sheriff and Bicycle Accident Prompts Investigation

As reported, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol is actively investigating an accident between a Brunswick County sheriff’s deputy and teen bicyclist.

Sgt. April Gause, spokeswoman for the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Department, said the collision occurred Wednesday around 9:15 p.m. along Danford Road. Gause said Deputy Andrew Lentz was driving a county vehicle when it hit a 14-year-old bicyclist.

Officials said the boy was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center and later released without serious injury. The deputy was treated and released from Dosher Memorial Hospital.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol and Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office have both opened an investigation into the collision. No charges have been filed.
