A woman named Lillie Parker Sherrod was tragically killed in a terrible accident near Pinetops, North Carolina on Tuesday. The accident apparently happened when a person driving a Ford Focus automobile on NC Highway 111 crossed the center line, hit a mailbox, and then hit Ms. Sherrod as she was mowing her lawn.
The accident happened around 5:30 p.m. It is not clear why the driver crossed the center line. Hopefully, State Highway Patrol investigators will examine the driver’s cell phone because the circumstances of this case appear very consistent with other cases of distracted driving. In any event, this is a terrible tragedy for the Sherrod family.
