Tractor Trailer and Vehicle Involved in Fatal Accident Near Lexington, North Carolina

According to news reports, there was a terrible accident early Saturday morning on I-85 in Davidson County near Lexington.  At the time of the article, it was not clear what happened in the wreck or how many fatalities were involved. 

Following the wreck, multiple lanes of I-85 were closed for up to 7 hours.  Indeed, I would expect the State Highway Patrol spent a significant amount of time fully documenting the scene of this terrible wreck as there were fatalities involved.  At this time, it is not clear whether there were any witnesses so we might expect that SHP will reconstruct this accident based on the physical evidence.  In any case, it is not surprising that collision between a tractor-trailer hauling up to 80,000 pounds and a vehicle (typically weighing around 3000 pounds) would result in serious injuries or fatalities.
