Fiery Crash on Durham Freeway Sends Two to Hospital

A terrible crash on Tuesday evening on the Durham Freeway has sent two people to the hospital.  The crash apparently happened when a Greensboro woman rear-ended a Jeep driven by Cruz-Esmeralda Rivera Martinez of Durham rupturing the Jeep’s fuel tank and causing the Jeep to catch fire.  Ms. Martinez suffered second and third degree burns.  The other driver has been charged.  For more, click here.

This sounds like a terrible wreck which caused serious injuries to the victim.  There would appear to be clear liability for the driver who rear-ended Ms. Martinez.  However, I would also wonder why the fuel tank ruptured in such a crash.
